Lumbar Epidural Steroid Injections

Lumbar epidural steroid injections are one of the most effective non-surgical treatments for sciatica and radicular leg pain. By delivering anti-inflammatory medication directly to the irritated nerve root, epidural injections can provide significant pain relief and help you return to normal activities — often avoiding the need for surgery.

How the Procedure Works

Under fluoroscopic guidance, a needle is precisely positioned in the lumbar epidural space near the affected nerve root. Contrast dye confirms correct placement before a combination of corticosteroid and local anesthetic is injected. The entire procedure takes minutes and is performed as an outpatient. Up to three injections may be recommended depending on response and duration of relief.
